NOT MANY MIGHTY MEN'S GROUP
Men'sThe Men at Calvary Westside have been meeting on the first Saturday of every month, without exceptions unless unavoidable. Our groups name is, "Not Many Mighty." This reference comes from the men who finally stopped following king Saul (who was a type of the king of this world - Satan) and they came to David, the biblical type of Jesus. These men came to David when they were broken, stressed out and bitter. We also are told by the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 1:26 that Jesus chooses "Not Many Mighty," then like king David's men and the disciples of Jesus, as the men hung around the king and learned His word and His ways, they were transformed into Mighty Men of Valor. That is what this church needs from us men, that is what this world needs, and that is what the men at Calvary Westside want to be - The Mighty Men of GOD!

When Nehemiah was building the walls of Jerusalem, he made sure that every man that was there had a shovel in one hand and a sword in the other. A healthy church should have men that follow this pattern. We need the sheepfold wall to be strong, without breach or opening where the adversary can get a foothold and eventually barge his way in. The men of every healthy church, in the history of Christianity, were the watchmen of the tower. Their weapons of their warfare polished and ready to be skillfully used and they kept the walls closed tight from any intruders. A godly church is a church where the men step up and do the work; teach the children, greet the people, wait on tables, protect God's sheep by patrolling the halls and parking lot and keeping their ears open, not eavesdropping but paying attention to any suspicious conversation, and keeping their eyes open for predators of every wicked sort. A man who is like King Jesus is a humble man but a mighty man. He is strange to the world, but pleasing to Jesus! He will go and minister at nursing homes, help a widow with household chores, see a need at church (shoveling snow or throwing garbage) and try to take care of it. He will shut the mouth of the back bitters, gossipers and tares that Satan has planted into the church to destroy the work of God.

Dr. Rick Parsons leads up our helps ministry. It is called Parakletos. The basic meaning of this Greek word is Helper. From time to time a need comes up and someone with the "know how" steps up and takes care of it. If you are interested in being added to this list, let Rick know and he will add your name and your talents to our Parakletos list.

This is important; more important than most men realize. Once a year we men get away on retreat together. We go up the mountain to "Life Ministries" more affectionately referred to as "The Castle" and we meet with the Lord. It is a time for men to be strengthened by their brothers. We usually have a guest Calvary Pastor share the teachings. The fellowship over meals, volleyball games and such, spontaneous worship times, prayer times, quiet and peaceful walks on the many trails with a brother or all alone with Jesus, are just a few ways that we spend our short time away from the hustle and bustle of this Christ rejecting world. We understand that the spiritual battle is going to go on until Jesus steps on the head of the serpent, so these retreats are just as important as a front line soldier in Afghanistan getting a weekend pass for some rest and relaxation, knowing that when he returns the enemy will be waiting. Retreats have a way of strengthening you for the next battle. They also bring the soldiers of Christ together in a needful way. All Calvary Men should go on this retreat every year. The next retreat is scheduled for February 21st - 23rd. Pray that you will see this time important enough to be there. Please also pray everyday for the retreat, that God would make a way for the men to come, and that Jesus would pour out His Spirit upon us and meet with us in a fresh new way!
